Plumbing Across Melbourne

Townhouses, Duranta Dr, Gowanbrae

This residential project in Gowanbrae comprises a collection of 15 architecturally designed, triple-storey townhouses. Smart Plumbing was engaged to deliver a complete civil and hydraulics package on a tight budget and time frame.

As the site was full of rock, and the left hand side dwellings were on positioned a cliff face, we first needed to excavate more than 500 cubic metres of rock. This challenge was overcome through close collaboration with the local council, civil engineers and project team. A re-design ensured it was safe to excavate at such depths so close to the cliff, while shipping containers installed at a lower level stopped any debris from interfering with existing dwellings.

As well as completing the site cut and removing all excess soil and rock from the site, Smart Plumbing constructed multiple pits up to three metres deep (of around 1500 x 1500mm) as well as 600mm and 575mm reinforced concrete pipes, custom grates and rainwater harvesting systems for all toilets and irrigation.

Despite the challenging soil conditions and schedule, the entire project was delivered on time without a single defect.
